Asafoetida

Asafoetida is often used in savoury dishes to add a richer flavour by mimicking the tastes of onion, garlic, egg and even some meats.  A staple ingredient of traditional Indian cooking, commonly used along with Turmeric in lentil dishes like Dahl.
